Animal release ( fangsheng ) is common to Mahayana and Tibetan Buddhism and is practiced to generate merit and promote good health. Following the same karmic principle of taking the life of others will shorten your life; giving life will lengthen it. The fangsheng practice is accompanied by prayers of refuge, blessing mantra and dedication of merit to liberate all beings.
Our upcoming fish release practice will begin this Sunday September 25, 2022. At 11:30 AM Central Time, we will gather at Palri Pema Od Ling, purchase fish from local markets and release them nearby. The fish chosen for release will be native and non-invasive. This is right after our recurring guided meditation practice that starts at 10:00 AM and ends at 11:00 AM.
You can contribute to the practice by providing donations here: https://www.palri.org/donations/fish-release/
