Ritual Instrument Courses

Loppön Rapjee Wangchuk will systematically teach the ritual instruments and ritual activities step by step in a two-part course. The format of the classes involves teaching and practicing. The objective of the course is to perfect the art of playing the instruments harmoniously during our regular practices. Please bring to the classes: a) a deep desire to play the instrument perfectly, b) a notebook and a pencil, preferably your own prayer text for notations, c) your ritual instruments such as bell and dorje or Chod instruments for the Chod class.

Ritual practice is a form of meditation, a form of mind training. When these rituals are performed physically and verbally with care and accuracy, they require us to be fully present during these activities. In the process, we are taming our minds and deepen our awareness and concentration.

The sounds of ritual music should be viewed as an offering or chöpa (mchod pa). Traditionally, it is said that these musical sounds are not for human entertainments, but expressions of emptiness realized through meditation.
