Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso Rinpoche was born in 1954 in a village near Lhakhang Dzong in the southern region of Tibet bordering Bhutan called Lhodrak. In 1969, he entered the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan studies at Sarnath, near Varanasi where he began his nine-year curriculum in Buddhist studies and general education under his principal teacher, Khenpo Palden Sherab, and other masters. His class work included Sanskrit, English and intensive studies in the textual traditions of Indian and Tibetan Buddhism. He graduated with the degree of Acharya at age 26, ranking first overall among the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism represented at Sanskrit University. His Holiness the Dalai Lama honored his achievement with the award of a silver medal during the convocation of the institute. After graduation, he was invited to teach in Palyul Namdroling Monastery at the Tibetan settlement in Bylakuppe, near Mysore, South India. In 1983, he was enthroned as a khenpo by His Holiness Pema Norbu Rinpoche. In the Nyingmapa tradition, a khenpo is a professor of Buddhist philosophy.
Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso has received all of the major lineage empowerments and transmissions of the Nyingmapa school, including the Dudjom Tersar from Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche; the Longchen Nyingthig Yabshi, and Nyingma Kama from Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche; and the Rinchen Terdzod and Nam Chos from Pema Norbu Rinpoche. He has done intensive Dzogchen practice under the guidance of Penor Rinpoche and other eminent masters including Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche and Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche. HH. Pema Norbu Rinpoche has authorized him to represent the monastery and to teach, to confer empowerments and to give personal instruction in Buddhist practice.
Khen Rinpoche has traveled and taught extensively in America, in Taiwan, and among the overseas Chinese communities in Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. His open, direct and thorough style of teaching has been very well received. He had given the empowerment of the Gyud Sangwai Nyingpo (Guhyagarbha Tantra) followed by extensive teachings on Mipham Rinpoche’s commentary, Odsal Nyingpo and that was the first time that this fundamental Nyingma tantra was explained in such great detail in the USA.

堪钦策旺嘉措仁波切 1954 年出生在南藏一个名叫洛扎的小村，其位于西藏和不丹交界的拉康宗附近。 1969 年，他进入了位于瓦拉纳西附近的鹿野苑的高级藏学中央研究院。堪钦仁波切在他的主要上师堪 布帕登喜绕的指导下，完成了 9 年的佛教学习和教育。堪钦仁波切完成了与印度佛教和西藏佛教相关的 梵语，英语和密集学习。他 26 岁时以阿阇黎的学位毕业。在当时的梵语大学里，仁波切的平均成绩在 藏传佛教四大流派所有学生中位列第一。在学院毕业典礼上，达赖喇嘛尊者授予了仁波切银奖章以示表 彰。毕业之后，仁波切应邀前往位于南印度迈索尔市附近拜拉库比区的南卓林寺院进行教学。1983 年 ，仁波切被尊贵的贝诺法王升座为堪布。在宁玛派的传统里，堪布等同于佛教哲学教授。 堪钦策旺嘉措仁波切接受了所有宁玛派主要传承的灌顶和口传，其中包括从敦珠法王仁波切处接受了敦 珠伏藏;从顶果钦哲仁波切处获得了龙钦四心滴和宁玛派长传;从贝诺法王仁波切处接受了大宝伏藏和 南丘天法的灌顶。堪钦仁波切在贝诺法王和其他著名上师(如堪布晋美彭措法王和纽书钦仁波切)的指 导下完成了密集的大圆满修持。
贝诺法王仁波切授权堪钦仁波切代表寺院，教学，赐予灌顶，以及给予个人佛法指导。堪钦仁波切在美国，台湾，新加坡，香港，菲律宾等地广 泛旅行和教学。他开放，直接和细致的教学方式广受欢迎。堪钦仁波切曾给予大幻化网的灌顶以及麦彭仁波切所造的相关论典的教学。这是此部 宁玛派根本续第一次在美国被如此详尽地讲解。
