Come join Loppon Rapjee for the Chötrul Düchen practice on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, from 7 pm – 9 pm. Loppon will lead us in the following practices: Recalling the Exalted Three Jewels, Shakyamuni Liturgy – Treasury of Blessings, and a Shower of Blessings Tsog.
There’s still time to join in the accumulation of merits on this auspicious day by giving an offering of Tsog at Düchen Event – Palri Pema Öd Ling, or bring flowers, butter lamps, snacks, drinks or save lives.
Chötrul Düchen, also known as the “Great Day of Miraculous Manifestations,” falls on the first full moon day of the Tibetan new year, Bumgyur Dawa. It commemorates the culmination of Buddha Shakyamuni’s miraculous activities for the first fifteen days of the year, in order to increase his disciples’ devotion. It is believed that the effects of both positive and negative actions are multiplied ten million times on this day.
In celebration of the fifteenth day of Losar, Tibetan households usually light all the lanterns and make butter lamps that mimic nature: such as the shapes of flowers, trees, and birds. They also create intricate lamp displays in their homes and in public spaces, sometimes constructing monumental structures as tall as a building. Thus, it is also known as the Butter Lamp Festival.
